This is an entry I made to Carol on FaceBook. It sums up my feelings at this time. A good man is gone.

I have just returned from a trip and just received this sad news.
Although Mr. Friesen and I never met we spoke and e-mailed frequently and I treasured his friendship. Gary and I shared so many interests.
This is to express my heartfelt sorrow and sincere condolences to you, Carol, and all of Gary's family. I will sorely miss Gary's countenance, advice and friendship.
Carol, please let me know if there is anything I, or the 623rd can do to lighten your burden.
